Complicated Family

In 2001, John and Jane married, and they each already had children from earlier marriages. Ten years later there was a feverish battle engaging the present family of twelve children. Jane ran to John and yelled, “Come at once! Your children and my children are fighting our children!”

As John & Jane now had each nine children of their own, how many were born during the ten years?

    The wording is a little unclear, but I think it’s 3 from John’s first marriage, 3 from Jane’s first marriage, and 6 children together over the last 10 years.

    Jo + JoJa = 9

    BMC= before 10 years marriage children (2001)
    AMC= after 10 years marriage children (2011)
    OIMC= Only in marriage kids (10 years span only)
    TC= total children of John and Jane (shared and nonshared…are they? jaja I mean double counting the shared ones or the OIMC)
    AMC= 12
    TC= 9 + 9= 18
    TC-AMC= 18-12= 6; BMC= 6
    OIMC= AMC – BMC; OIMC= 6
    Six children were born in the ten years span. Cool man.
